Our commitment
Emboulden is built to be usable by as many people as possible. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We’re a small team in active alpha and we have not yet completed a full WCAG audit, so some pages may fall short. We’re working on it.
Known gaps
Things we know about and plan to fix as the product matures:
- Color-contrast has not been formally audited across every theme and surface. Some secondary text on cream backgrounds may not yet meet 4.5:1.
- Some form inputs use placeholder text without explicit labels. Visible labels are coming.
- The streaming AI coach updates the chat area as text arrives but does not yet announce new tokens to screen readers (an
aria-liveregion is planned). - Custom button focus indicators have not been audited for visibility across all themes.
- The free static course pages have not been audited for keyboard navigation through their “Page Mode” pagination.
What works today
- Semantic HTML for headings, lists, and forms throughout the app.
- Keyboard navigation works on the primary signed-in surfaces (sign-in, dashboard, journal, goals, coach).
- Color is not the sole means of conveying information.
- Pages reflow on narrow viewports down to phone widths.
